Mauritius to Durban Race – Announcement
The Point Yacht Club, organisers of the Mauritius to Durban Ocean Race, have announced that the race start has been postponed by one year – and will now start on Saturday 16 June 2018.
“This is a decision we have not taken lightly” said Craig Millar, Commodore of the Point Yacht Club. “The current economic situation is simply not conducive to running a race in June this year. Prospective entrants have requested this extension, which after deliberation has been granted, and is a positive indication that the race has support.”
The original announcement of the race in November last year did indicate that the race may be rolled over a year, so while it is regrettable that this has had to happen, the outlook for this classic ocean race in 2018 is very positive.
The race organisers will revise the Notice of Race and other pertinent documentation, and will distribute this widely as soon as possible.
